Summer, Summer, Summertime

This week’s mini heatwave has given us all the summer feels as we have donned our sunglasses and hats. There has been plenty of suncream applied to protect our skin but how do you protect your product labels from the sun?

We wouldn’t recommend adding a hat to them or smothering them in suncream as they may become quite illegible and slightly greasy. We would recommend checking the UV durability of your labels and if needs be updating these.

Labels (unlike us humans) cannot be protected from UV rays after they have been manufactured. The protection process happens during manufacturing them. At GSM Online Label Sales, we have tested our labels for UV durability. Both our metal and plastic product labels can be digitally or screen printed using UV inks.

UV durable aluminium labels are anodised which is the process of electrically charging the aluminium to open the pores of the metal which is then print into before sealing. Effectively sealing the ink beneath the anodic layer. UV durable polycarbonate is reverse printed, the ink is printed on to the back face of the plastic so the material then protects the ink. Both these manufacturing methods further add to the UV durability of the final product.

This is why we offer a range of manufactured UV durable products rather than an application after they have been manufactured.
