How to use asset labels efficiently?

When identifying and recording assets it is important to ensure that you over order or keep a note of the last serial number from the previous batch. This is because once you have initially ‘tagged’ and recorded all assets you will, year on year, add to these assets and using an asset label that looks the same as the original is a benefit.

Assets come in all shapes and sizes and it is important to do prior research to be sure that you are including all information required and that your labels will be versatile enough to withstand the environment conditions they may be subjected to.

What’s important to include?
You may feel that including your company name is enough information to include on your assets. Alternatively, you may require a telephone number and/or website address to be included. You most likely would require a unique number that can be traced via your internal asset management system to coincide with that particular asset.

There are a few ways of ensuring that these unique or serial numbers are made durably and specifically to meet your requirements.

If you require serial numbers, we can offer to print these onto either anodised aluminium or polycarbonate so that you can choose which material best suits your application. Using serial numbers ensure that the printed number increases on each label therefore should you need to order some more, the numbers printed will continue to increase from the last printed number.

An alternative to having pre-printed and determined serial numbers is to order anodised aluminium foil asset labels that can be stamped (by you) in-house or on-site to include a variant of a number (or letters) that is 100 percent unique to your company and in particular the asset it is fixed to.

How to fix the labels to assets?
If you are using an anodised aluminium 1mm thick asset tag then dependant upon your application we would recommend using fixing holes to rivet the plate in place. However, using polycarbonate or anodised aluminium foil we would recommend a 3M 468 adhesive that is applied to the rear. These may also be bent around a curved surface to ensure all assets no matter how big, small or shaped may be tagged efficiently.

All of our asset labels can be used internally and externally to suit your application.
